ESPN suspends Tony Kornheiser for remarks about Hannah Storm - Sporting News staff reports - General - Sporting News

I heard Tony's comments on his radio show and I saw Hannah's outfit. I am not sure I want to be in a society in which somebody can't say somebody is wearing a bad outfit.
ESPN grow up and show sports!

New City, Still No Drama in Pro Bowl?

New city, still no drama in Pro Bowl - ESPN

Posted using ShareThis

I wasn't going to do anything with this story until I found out the story was written by retired Orlando Sentinel columnist Jerry Greene who is one of those cynical sports writers who used(I am going to use the past tense if he is insisting on using the title retired even though he is still writing) syndicate football picks every week and thought he was funny with his literal take on football teams(Calling the New York Jets the East Rutherford Jets, but never calling the Dallas Cowboys the Irving Cowboys which is ironic because East Rutherford is closer to New York than Irving is to Dallas).
So in other words there was the nothing the NFL or the Pro Bowl could do that was going to satisfy him.
So in case you missed it(and you probably did since the Grammys were on) here on some things the Pro Bowl did that were better(compared to the past)!
*By having the game during the bye week of The Super Bowl, I wasn't completely bored on a ordinary Sunday pondering whether to actually check out Golf, and possibly missing Baseball and dare I say NASCAR(NOOOOO!)!
*It gave ESPN a head start on Super Bowl hype and discussion. In the past what else would there be to talk about(because you can't just watch sports you have to talk about it) since the Super Bowl would have been the week before.
*There were more people in the stadium(which it seems has changed names 4 times in the last year!) for any Pro Bowl I've seen in a long time(and more than I've seen for a Dolphins game in a long time).
*It was a high scoring game that was close and went down to the last few series to determine the winner.
*Aaron Rodgers started the game!!!!!!!!!!

I know you can't teach a old dog new tricks and far be it for a simple blogger/podcaster to tell Jerry Greene how to write. But it is so easy to find something wrong with something especially since he had convinced himself he wasn't going to enjoy it anyway. Maybe enjoy yourself for once and in addition to his snarky style add something that is positive. Is it really that hard?
I imagine it probably is.

This should be a bigger deal! At the very least ESPN should be putting this on their bottom line, especially since they actually covered the match(when they were actually showing sports!)!
Way to go Kelly!

ESPN to unveil 3-D television network in 2010

ESPN to unveil 3-D television network in 2010

It seems kind of hokey. But what ever it will take for ESPN to show sports(stop talking about it, and stop showing 12 hours of Sportscenter) I am in favor it.

Doing What's Best "4" All

Way back in March I thanked Brett Favre for his long tenure with the Green Bay Packers.
It was a fun ride, with plenty of excitement and entertainment including a Super Bowl Championship, the thrill of overcoming a broken thumb to smack down the Vikings on National Television, to giving a high five to an official after a touchdown.
But it was over. It was time to move on, not just for him, but for me as well the humble fan(actually a Green Bay Packers Stockholder). Just a few moments to reflect, watch the tearful retirement speech, maybe watch a few old games on videotape the NFL doesn't know I have since I haven't sought written permission from them. Then a simple thank you and then realize that life goes on.
Even if you don't care about football or sports for that matter you've probably been forced at some point to hear the news that Favre had an itch to play again and his now seeking reinstatement into the league and play again for the Packers.
So the lesson for all involved here is what I previously mentioned. Life goes on, and sometimes we need to be reminded that there are other things in life that we can and maybe should do. Including Hall of Fame caliber Quarterbacks.
Does Brett have the right to want to play again. Sure. But is Brett really the right person to know what is best for him in this situation based on what it means to his team and now the entire National Football League(N.F.L.). Sometimes we has humans are faced with certain realities, and sometimes the person directly involved is not really the best expert to what is really best for that person. Actually sometimes we are the last person to know when it is time to move on in a situation, whether in be in football, or a job or even a relationship.
Now the Evil SPorts Network is posing the question that the Packers are bribing Brett by offering him between 20 and 25 million dollars for ten years to stay retired under a Marketing and Promotional Contract for the Packers.
What appears to be a bribe on the surface, is actually an offer that is not only in the best interests for Brett and The Packers, but the entire N.F.L.
What ESPN forgets is that making up stories and creating drama is entertainment for them and their audience. The real entertainment comes from the actual game itself and not in a 90 second(two minutes if it's Primetime or Monday Night Countdown) highlight of their importance or choosing. You really can't have one without the other.
So while letting Brett play seems like a great idea, the media frenzy or circus is too distracting for all parties involved, and if releasing him or trading then sounds like a better option for the Packers just for the sake of letting Favre play for the sake of playing, a reporter or two may stick around Green Bay just to see how they are doing, the rest of the circus would follow Brett and the process just lives on in a different location. That is not in the best interest for the game itself, and in reality for Brett, and that is why the Commissioner of the N.F.L. Roger Goodell has not yet reinstated Favre, which was according to the mighty network a rubber stamp deal that would have been done seconds after the N.F.L. received Favre's letter of intent.
As much as I have enjoyed the play of Favre over the years, I am grateful for the time and effort spent but life goes on and the reality is the game goes on, and what ever happens over the next couple of days, when the games begin, whoever is playing. I'll be there.

Get a New Plan Stan!

I'm in a sports mood today and I'm shocked to hear the news about Stan Van Gundy. I'm not shocked that he is out as coach of the NBA's Miami Heat, nor am I in shock that former Coach Pat Riley is taking over. I am shocked that by now Van Gundy has not spontaneously combusted.
Maybe it's a little personal because for one shining moment Van Gundy was the head coach at the University of Wisconsin when Stu Jackson decided he was too good for Wisconsin after leading them to 1 NCAA Tournament win(in fairness it was their first win in the tournament since the 1940's), and in my opinion only Van Gundy is the biggest Freakazoid in Sports.
What inspired me to write this article is the fact that it is not very often that I agree with or for that matter even listen to ESPN's Steven A. Smith. HOWEVER!
I am in complete agreement with Mr. Smith that Van Gundy will never be accepted as a NBA coach(or any other coach) until he learns how to relax. He is constantly moving up and down, screaming and yelling at officials, players, mascots, and whatever is in his path, and the worst part was he was always in this big pool of sweat!
When he was at Wisconsin, I wanted the Badgers to win, but I just couldn't stand watching this blubbering, blithering, blathering sweat monster parading the sideline.
So my advice to Mr. Van Gundy is, take some time off, enjoy the holidays, find the BIGGEST Chill Pill you can find, and CHILL THE @#$%& OUT
